- Demon’s Souls has been certified by the South Korean GRAC ratings board.
- The remake joins Miles Morales as one of two certified PS5 titles.
- The move has sparked speculation Demon’s Souls may join Sony’s PS5 launch slate.
Upcoming PS5 exclusive Demon’s Souls may potentially arrive sooner than anticipated.
The remake of From Software’s seminal action-RPG received certification from the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee on Aug. 13 last week (thanks Gemastu), earmarking its suitability for release in the country.
Developed by the remastering wizards at Bluepoint Games in conjunction with Sony’s first-party JAPAN Studio, Demon’s Souls’ first outing came during ‘The Future of Gaming’ broadcast in June, accompanied by a trailer, which you can view just below.
The announcement lacked any clue as to when fans should expect to play the game, implying it would not launch alongside the PS5 later this year. The consensus gravitated around an early 2021 release at the earliest.
Demon’s Souls PS5 Launch Title?
An early pass from the South Korean GRAC reshuffles that initial release speculation, notably because the only PS5 launch title currently certified by the Korean body – on Aug.6 – is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Sony has already confirmed the standalone expansion to the PS4 exclusive as part of its PS5 launch slate, raising hopes that Demon’s Souls will follow suit.
Naturally, this remains mainly speculative, and certification is no substitution for an official confirmation from Sony or Bluepoint Games. As such, we’d recommend approaching this with a degree of caution.
Nevertheless, the signs are promising; rating board certification indicates a title is near completion in most instances.
From Sony’s perspective, Demon’s Souls would certainly prop up the PS5 launch roster. Its inclusion could be instrumental in tempting fans of the cult classic to join the ranks of next-gen early adopters.
Could Demon’s Souls be a PS5 launch title? | Source: PlayStation/Sony Interactive EntertainmentAdditionally, the specifics of Sony’s PS5 launch plans remain shrouded in mystery. The platform holder has remained mostly silent since June’s showcase, feeding the notion that it still has a lot to share.
Many of the games revealed in June arrived packaged without release date details, possibly a cautionary measure on Sony’s part given the volatility thrown up by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the PS5’s launch approaches and Sony solidifies its plans, we’ll likely hear more soon, and there’s a high chance some good Demon’s Souls news is on the way.
